Napoleon Hill states, that “spoken words without enthusiasm are often ineffective and sometimes they can be actually boresome.” Mr. Hill’s explanation for the fact, that enthusiasm has such a powerful impact upon the minds of those who come under its influence is his concept of the human brain.
The brain, says Napoleon Hill, is both a broadcasting and a receiving station, which sends out thought vibrations and picks up other people’s thought vibrations. In my opinion, even if reduced to the sure facts of subconscious perception of gesture and mimic, the basic concept of enthusiasm and its influence on people even without talking to them, is sound.
Napoleon Hill quotes steel-tycoon and initiator of “The Law of Success in 16 Lessons”, “Think And Grow Rich” and the 10 books that followed:

Mr. Hill then gives a brief 4-step-course in salesmanship. When you are meeting people:
- Turn on you Enthusiasm and modulate your voice to let the other persons feel you are happy to communicate with him.
- Handshake: Take a firm grip on the hand and squeeze the other’s hand gently and rhythmically while saying i.e. “How do you do I am so very glad to meet you”
- First conversational subject: Subjects of interest for the other person.
- Eagerly ask questions. First sell others to themselves
Tip: Napoleon Hill suggests this method to enhance your expression of enthusiasm:
- Practice reading aloud for 10 minutes daily. And add as much enthusiasm as possible into the reading.
